Community members are invited to attend the 10th Annual Canstruction® Madison event, April 8-19 at West Towne Mall in Madison, WI. Hosted by Middleton Outreach Ministry, the competition calls on teams to end hunger by building structures of canned goods and packaged food. All food is donated to the MOM Food Pantry, serving Madison, Middleton, and Cross Plains. This year’s theme is “CANopoly.”
The Canstruction® Madison build day will take place on Wednesday, April 8, throughout West Towne Mall. Supplies are sponsored by individuals, businesses, and groups. Audiences will vote for their favorite canned goods structure from Friday, April 10, to Sunday, April 19, through Facebook and Instagram, or in-person. The “People’s Choice” prize, as well as various awards, will be distributed at the Award Ceremony on April 19.
Prior to the Awards Ceremony, the structures are judged by design professionals and community leaders. Many awards are given, including youth-only categories. The final award is decided by the community, who vote for the People’s Choice Award. Trophies are awarded for use of color, creativity, and engineering.
“Canstruction® not only brings friends and colleagues together to give back while team building but is an opportunity for the community to see how people can come together to benefit those in need. Each can is food for families and another step towards ending hunger,” says Ellen Carlson, MOM Executive Director.
Canstruction® Madison 2020 is generously presented by Godfrey & Kahn and Chase Brieman of CBRE.
